Well that was a lot of information on the last blog about “The Power Of Magnesium”, so I’m going to over a couple key points so some important information does not get lost in amongst all the paragraphs. I wasn’t able to put in any of the ways that I use magnesium everyday, or the blog would have been a novel, so I will give some the ways that I use magnesium here now. Magnesium has become a staple in my home in many forms as a powder, a gel and a capsule.
Migraines/Headaches/Break Through Headaches
I once use to protect my codeine bottle with my life, and now I hover over my magnesium bottle as if it is worth the weight of ten men in gold. Does that make sense lol. I also use to carry little pill cases in almost every pocket or purse with either extra Codeine or Atasol or Aleve, but now my little pill cases have Magnesium Citrate into them. I have mentioned this before, but without magnesium, I know my already shaky semi pain free life, would come crashing down. The magnesium helps to calm the linings of the blood vessels, which is where my issue lies with my vascular, circulatory system. It also calms and relaxes the muscles in my body mainly my neck shoulders, and back. It also helps me to quickly heal from stress and tension by helping my body to make more of the necessary hormones I need to help me remain in a relaxed or happy mood, so that my brain does not turn into that ball of twisted up Christmas light wires that takes 4 hours to untangle before you finally loose your mind and just go buy new ones. I can’t buy a new brain, so therefore I buy magnesium.
I truly believe that doctors do not let out how much magnesium can help you or the pharmaceutical industry will crash. A large bottle of magnesium is only $13.00 and lasts me 3 months, you would never be able to run a medical insurance metropolis on billing $13.00 for patient medications when you can receive $300-$1000/billing/day/week/patient times 2 billion people, and the holistic medications have no addictive properties. We will never see the day.
Muscle Pain/Arthritis Relief
For much of the same reasons for reducing migraine pain, magnesium citrate also helps to reduce and relieve the pain of sore or bruised muscles and pretty much overnight. If taken on a regular basis your muscles will have a constant replenished mineral that will help them to repair themselves by helping the muscle to have better oxygen to keep them in top shape. The body mainly uses 40%-50% of magnesium intake to the bones and the rest usually goes to the soft tissues, muscles. There is a minor amount absorbed by the blood, (which is why testing for magnesium levels is better done as a biopsy of tissue then through a blood serum), but for the most part magnesium concentrations are highest in muscles and bones. Therefore by increasing the magnesium to the registered accepted levels through our vitamins and or a maximum accepted level, our muscles and bones will have greater repair opportunity and we will have stronger, bones and bones with greater density, therefore helping to reduce arthritic complications in the joints as well.
My husband has felt the difference that taking magnesium has given him while on sporting expeditions that tend to strain his muscles. He has less pain – to – no pain while on skidoo trips, quad trips, and less to no general everyday muscle complaints. Before my migraines became so intense, and before I started to supplement with magnesium, I use to be a weather vein. My knee joints and elbows could forecast rain, hurricanes and winter storms to the hour before they were to hit. I would complain to my doctor that I felt like a super hero, only my power was shooting flames out through my fingers and elbows. I went through bottle after bottle of Deep Heat, A535, and Voltaren Extra Strength Gel, with little to no relief, and truly since I now supplement with magnesium daily I have NO arthritic pain…none…none…none…Truth! It is very rare now that I have a twinge of pain through any joint and if I do, it is time to barricade the windows cause it will be armagedon if I feel pain in my joints now, lol.
I sometimes feel like an infomercial for magnesium, but my life has changed because I have taken care of my deficiency. Yes there are certain things that still ail me, but without this supplement I would be in a Mental Institute now, because the more I would be taking of prescription meds, the more magnesium would be depleted from my body, creating more and more and more insurmountable amounts of pain. Because of my magnesium daily intake, today I am going out with my daughter later enjoying a wonderful afternoon walk and then visiting dear friends. A year ago I thought I was going to die. It is a deficiency. We are all lacking magnesium, and that my friends is the truth.
COPD/Sleep Disorders (Sleep Apnea)
Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disorder, basically means you have trouble breathing. It is a respiratory, lung, disease. Ones lungs will be subject to illnesses such as chronic bronchitis, emphysema and blockages making it very hard to breath causing you to wheeze and cough and as you get older you will be reliant on an oxygen machine. A member of my family also suffers from this illness and now takes magnesium everyday and as in many studies he has found great results that the magnesium has helped him to come off his inhalers, has helped to strengthen his lungs, which in turn has made his daily life and sleep life much more pleasant. He has less snoring and his sleep apnea has decreased to almost non-existing anymore. The magnesium has given him energy as well, which has also turned into greater activity and weight loss.
Heart/High Blood Pressure
We use magnesium in my home for a member of my family who suffers from high blood pressure. He has taken High Blood Pressure Medication now for 3 years may be 4. While on his blood pressure medication for the first 2-3 years he was still receiving high blood pressure level results, so consistently, that his doctor told him that is just where he trends. I convinced him to take a daily supplement of 150mg-300mg of magnesium and for the past year while on the magnesium, he has now seen his blood pressure results slowly dropping to the normal range… not high normal… normal. To the point now he will be going back to his doctor to reduce his medication. Once again, the magnesium is helping to calm the lining of the blood vessels helping to strengthen his heart and return his blood pressure back to a normal reading. He has started to eat better because he feels better, but other then that, his lifestyle is still insane and his work life extremely stressful, but his body is better apt to repair itself once again because he was ailing due to a deficiency.
There are many studies linked to taking magnesium and heart health and helping those with arrhythmias. World Health Organizations, American Health Organization, Heart and Stroke, Nutritional Magnesium Association and the Mayo Clinic all rave about the supplement of magnesium and decreasing heart diseases and high blood pressure. It now has become one of the Mayo Clinic’s heart therapy recovery and preventative supplements, a supplement to stabilize those with erratic heart rythms, and those suffering from migraines. The information is out there pertaining to the health benefits especially with the heart and the brain by supplementing with magnesium. In my house, we have seen it with our own eyes.
Anxiety
Because magnesium works so well to calm the respiratory and vascular systems, muscles and linings of the blood vessels, one can see how it would be a staple supplement to those with anxiety. Once again, crucial studies all around the world are showing valuable positive results on children and adults who suffer with mental illnesses. Not only benefiting those with anxiety, but also those with Autism, Depression, Dyslexia, Personality Disorders, Chronic Stress, Chronic Fatigue and many more that I’m not aware of. By taking magnesium supplements, it helps to calm the muscles, calm the vascular system, the nervous system, calms heart rate and breathing which in turn is all valuable decreases to help one take control of their mental anguish. In my home we have a little “Jitter Bug,” I affectionately call her. I supplement her juice with the magnesium citrate powder. Not only has it given positive results in decreasing her anxiety and mood swings, but also in her total energy and body health. On weeks that I may forget and not put the supplement into her juice, we can see increases in her anxiety symptoms. Not only does it calm her emotionally, but it is also a preventive measure for cavities, it strengthens her bones and gives her brain and muscles the ability to receive more oxygen.
When supplementing children you will want to start at a very low amount, (15mg-50mg depending on weight and age of the child), and work your way up due to its laxative properties at high doses. You would not want to deplete their little bodies of needed water/liquid.
Toothpaste
I have a small container that I keep in the washroom for when my family and I brush our teeth. I first squeeze the toothpaste on to my toothbrush and then I either sprinkle the magnesium citrate over the toothpaste or if it is my own little individual container I dap the toothpaste into the container so that it comes out coated with magnesium citrate.
The magnesium citrate helps to keep our mouth, gums and teeth strong and provide extra protection against cavities. Since we have started adding the magnesium to our toothpaste rituals, it has helped our whole family reduce the amount of cavities we have to zero. My daughter had 2 cavities I think before using magnesium when she was much younger, and now over the past 8 years she has had zero cavities. I had a molar that had crack lines going down through the side of it and my dentist thought years ago I was going to have to get a crown, but now with the intake of magnesium and using it with my toothpaste I can happily say my tooth is still in tact and my dentist can not understand how it has not fallen apart yet. I use to have a lot of sensitivity in my teeth and a long the gum line and once again I can happily say I have none…none…none. Our dentist appointments are a breeze.
Bath Time
We have all benefited from the use of Epsom salts in the bathtub, magnesium sulfate. We pour about a half a cup full into the bath to dissolve and then the magnesium sulfate gets absorbed through the skin helping to relax and rejuvenate sore muscles. Sometimes my daughter and I make an awesome Epsom Salt Bath Powder (2cups) with equal parts (1/2 cup)of Baking Soda and Corn Starch and 10-20 drops of which ever scented essential oil we like, filling bath time with a relaxing scented aroma, that helps to release extra tension and just takes you away to your own little stress free paradise. (Sometimes we add powdered milk just to intensify the nourishment and softness it gives your skin) It is beyond relaxing. (Orange, Mint Essential Oil Bath Powder…TO DIE FOR…just sayin! Smells like Terry’s Orange Chocolate yummy!!)
Gosh just when I figured this blog would be easier on your eyes I just looked down at the character count and once again I’ve wrote a chapter. May be I should just change the name from Holistic Blogs to Holistic Chapters. When I become so passionate about a subject that I KNOW WILL HELP others I just lose myself in the information hoping I get it all out there. I hope you find some remedies here that can help you and your family.
Have a Happy Magnesium Day!!!!
