My First Line Of Defense

When the doctor calls you go immediately. My report was back and there were cysts in the liver. A few were very large and concerned them. They wanted to start a 6-month regular CT scan to track their progress. Progress?? Well that meant to see if they grew any larger, turned to a mole or turned to cancer. But I was leaving with “good news” because the liver is the one organ in the body that can regenerate itself if given the chance so not to worry. Not to worry?? Yeah right. In the meantime I should reduce meats, especially reds, dairy, eat lots of veggies and fruits and reduce my alcohol intake or better yet don’t drink alcohol at all. UGH… for the last time I don’t drink!!

Hmm… might all the medications = liver damage = vestibular migraines???

I felt my body deteriorating and not getting any answers. So being the thinker and reader I am, for the love of knowledge and my health… I started my own quest.

I first started to research “headaches/migraines/liver damage” and my first bit of tasty intrigue, was a book that came up on google search engines called “The Magnesium Miracle” written by Carolyn Dean, M.D., N.D.. I then looked it up on iBooks and downloaded a sample. HOOKED!!! What??? Sure everything that was hurting me was in this book. There was information on Vit D, Vit B, the importance of minerals, especially magnesium, for those who suffer from brain illnesses and heart conditions. I could not read it fast enough and sometimes not at all until I took another Ginger Gravol and licked the ginger root a few times like a lollipop, but hey got me to the chapter all about Migraines and the lack of Magnesium contributing to them. I will be doing at least a few hundred blogs on Magnesium when I finish my Miracle Story because it was and still is the first contributing factor to my recovery.

Immediately go to a library to check out this book if available or a store or online and PURCHASE this book TODAY. I am not connected in any way monetarily to this book or Author and I realize by putting her book here and her name will improve her pocket but she was my first remedy back to living again and an extremely important and integral part of my recovery. GO PURCHASE NOW!!!! The edition in the picture is her newest edition, I now own 2 but the previous edition I have let out on loan.

So I hunted down Magnesium, but first I had to learn about the different types of magnesium. So, you can purchase magnesium sulfate but the body only absorbs about 4% of the magnesium so its kind of a waste. Magnesium oxide has a very strong laxative effect so that one is not the best for everyday use, it’s more widely used in hospitals. There are a few more magnesium compounds but a couple need more research besides Magnesium Glycine this is another one which is less of a laxative effect but the only way I have found it in my neck of the woods, is in a powder form and it didn’t taste as nice as the Big Daddy Magnesium I’m about to talk about.

The Magnesium Daddy you want is MAGNESIUM CITRATE. Your body absorbs 90% or more of the magnesium. It has a laxative effect but only with higher quantities. Now everybody is different and tolerates different levels of magnesium. I my own self take 300mg twice a day, but my husband can only take 150mg once a day because he really has no major ailments (besides the Y chromosome) hehehe… hold on I’m laughing right now cause when he sees it he will know I’m being vindictive…Wow I am really enjoying this moment… lol oh my tooo funny.. anywhoooo. (no offence to other y chromosomes reading this, it’s just a one-upmanship in the art of marital jest).  So, depending on your ailment and the amount you are deficient in, your body will let you know when you have too much intake because your outgoing valve will start working REALLY well.

For those who have not gotten my humor yet, if you take too much you will have loose bowel movements a couple of times until the magnesium has went through your system. So then you will know you need to cut back. The best thing to do is to start at 150mg once a day then in a couple of days increase to 2 a day and so forth until your internal pipes let you know you’ve reached your goal. Then you can either cut back one dose from there and continue taking until the process happens again letting you know to cut back more or you may be able to take up to at least 600mg quite easily especially if you are suffering from any brain, migraine, heart or muscular illness. I have been taking 300mg twice a day for 2 years now or more and have no issue at all with my pipes. (Sorry but has to be spoken about when you’re talking about magnesium…better to know ahead of time if ya know what I mean).

***The Magnesium in the picture is the brand that I have felt has been successful for me. There are many different name brands and I’m sure many more that have been tested through a Holisitic Pharmacy for consistency, but so far I have had great success with the above Brand.

After a week and a half of introducing the magnesium citrate, one day out of the blue it hit me, “Why isn’t my head hurting soo much and why haven’t I woke with a headache in days?” ANSWER…The Magnesium!!! So I introduced this new remedy into my husbands tool box of vitamins as well, firstly because all evidence points towards it helping men, and women, to maintain a healthy heart. During my magnesium quest for knowledge, I also found information on how it has been proven to help decrease symptoms of degenerative eye diseases…BINGO… of which my husband suffers from… can you say E2… BINGO!!! He has a degenerative eye disease called Keratoconus, which basically means his eyes will start looking like footballs protruding forward instead of being a nice pool ball shape. (Sorry I really don’t know if all eyeballs should be a pool ball shape but I do know they shouldn’t look like footballs). So anyway the Keratoconus makes his eyes really itchy like he has sand in his eyes all the time, which is not good if you wear glass contacts, because when you scratch wearing glass contacts it will damage your corneas. Okay well the point to this story is, I put him on magnesium citrate and within a few weeks we noticed a major decrease in him scratching his eyes. This became benefit number 2 for him.

Benefit 3 for him came about when he went on a skiddo trip wit “da boy’s” and him being known as Poppy, because he is a small bit older then the others and always asleep by 7pm, a noticeable difference arose between him and the younger pups. After a few full days playing in the powder, (snow for those closer to the equator), the younger ones were very sore and starting to complain about a few muscles, backs and necks and were quite interested in what Poppy was taking in the morning to help him not be as sore as he used to be. The topic of the trip became about the magnesium helping to restore the muscles from strain and hard work. By the time he returned I must have sent a picture of my magnesium citrate bottle at least 5 times so he could forward it to those who were quite impressed with Poppy becoming Popeye.

So in my house it has not only decreased major severity in my levels of pain due to migraines but his degenerative eye symptoms and definitely contributing to healthier hearts (recently he has seen a major decrease in his high blood pressure now tracking at normal for well over a month), and less muscle soreness and the bonus effect it has on reducing cavities. It has become a win, win, win, win.

We are suppose to get magnesium through our foods, mainly dark green veggies, but our food supply is so insufficient in nutrient dense consistency that you would need to supplement to get anywhere near a dosage of what your body might minimally need. I promise you I will go into greater detail on magnesium and the many different journals and web sites I had surfed and tirelessly perused through during the late hours of the night. Which if you suffer from headaches you should be sleeping, but at the same time if you are suffering from headaches you also want to find remedies/cures. This by far was and still is the greatest remedy I found. There will be many more but this is definitely a staple of my remedies that I take religiously.

I become an infomercial when I know something works so well that I just want to share it in such an energetic, enthusiastic way that to shut me up you will find yourself yelling “OKAY CRAZY LADY GIVE ME THE DAMB BOTTLE I WILL TAKE THEM JUST FOR THE LOVE OF GOD SHUT UP!!!” It would be nicer if you would just say, “Wow sounds great sure I’ll try it”, instead of the former response, that one leaves a little owie…lol. Okay, now that I have made a novel out of this blog, I will apologize for making your eyes feel blurry but now your body will love you for going out and purchasing the foresaid literature and do a bit of researching on your own and or ask your doctor/naturopath as well before you implement any remedy.

I guess because this was my first leap into a decrease in the bongo playing in my cocanoodle, (brain), this topic makes me very excited. This was not the total remedy but it definitely was a positive start and my above assumption or hypothesis, is about to make great advancements.

P.S. One quick little piece of info from my own experience with taking magnesium is to not take it past 6-7pm. I find it keeps me awake because it gives me an energy boost if I take it too late in the evening. It could be different for you but this was just my observation.
